"KNOWLEDGE" - The Library Collection

The current collection is a visual representation of human “Knowledge”, its importance, but most importantly the use or misuse of it. The book spines are used here as a visual symbol, representing the collection of human knowledge throughout history and also as a symbol of storing and passing on this knowledge.

The entire collection is a visual narration of the Alchemical journey of information and its transmutation into different states. One can only claim knowledge once one has wisdom. Wisdom and knowledge are twin sisters and they go hand in hand. By simply possessing some information, one cannot claim that one has knowledge. For one to state “I know!” one has to Be. Knowing is Being!

The alchemical process of transmutation is the transformation of states of being and states of information. From getting the information to being (acting, practicing), from knowing (having the information) to Wisdom (being the information). From reading the books to writing the books.

Information stored on pages of books and shelves of libraries, without being transmuted into wisdom through application of the mental and spiritual alchemical processes, is worthless. The true library of Human Knowledge is indeed the Human Spirit and its Infinite Divine Wisdom.

Hints of the alchemical reference can be found in the symbolic use of different materials such as melted lead and gold leaf, alongside bitumen, charcoal, ashes and many others.

All canvases have the same dimension of 150 cm x 100 cm.
